Den Haag, Van Goor, n.d. [circa 1930]. 1st and only ed. Oblong cloth. Cover sl. worn and soiled, otherwise fine.
Alongside Carel de Nerée tot Babberich (1880–1909) and René Gockinga (1893–1962), Otto Verhagen (1885–1951) was one of the few highly talented Dutch artists of the early 20th century who steadfastly upheld Beardsley’s decadent queer tradition. These beautiful illustrations were made in the 1920s and are a marvellous blend of Beardsley and Art Deco Jazz Age. A scarce book of European artistic calibre.
