Jaap Harskamp. European Londoners. Snapshots of Movement and Migration. Amsterdam, 2024

Historian Jaap Harskamp, former curator of the British Library, wrote this great study on the role of immigrants. It was inspired by a remark of A.N. Wilson who, in his History of London wrote that the influence of immigrants was purely negative. To cite Harskamp in his introduction: "His [Wilson's] approach emphasised my long-held suspicion that Britain has a streak of amnesia when it comes to acknowledging immigrant's blood in her veins." A beautiful and important book, that reads like a novel.
