Derde druk van de beroemde rijmkroniek van Melis Stoke (ca. 1235–ca. 1305), klerk aan het hof van de Hollandse graven en auteur van het oudste Middelnederlandse geschiedwerk in de volkstaal, dat de geschiedenis van Holland tot 1305 beschrijft. Deze editie, bezorgd door de Rotterdamse oudheidkundige Cornelis van Alkemade (1654–1737), is de eerste geïllustreerde uitgave: met vijfendertig gravures van de Hollandse graven naar de oude schilderijen uit het Haarlemse Karmelietenklooster, alsmede een portret van Gerard van Velsen, de moordenaar van graaf Floris V. Van Alkemade voorzag de tekst van uitgebreide historische toelichtingen.

Third edition of the celebrated rhymed chronicle of Melis Stoke (c. 1235–c. 1305), a clerk at the court of the counts of Holland and author of the oldest historical work in the Middle Dutch vernacular, recounting the history of Holland up to 1305. This edition, prepared by the Rotterdam antiquarian Cornelis van Alkemade (1654–1737), is the first illustrated edition: with thirty-five engravings of the counts of Holland after the old paintings from the Carmelite monastery at Haarlem, together with a portrait of Gerard van Velsen, the murderer of Count Floris V. Van Alkemade supplied the text with extensive historical annotations.
