Tweetalige, Franse en Nederlandse uitgave van Volpillières lofdicht op Lodewijk XIV, oorspronkelijk verschenen in 1673 als panegyriek op de Franse inval in de Republiek tijdens het Rampjaar 1672, toen Holland vrijwel aan de voeten van de Zonnekoning lag. Boekverkoper en uitgever François Halma bracht het bombastische origineel drie decennia later opnieuw uit, nu vertaald in Nederlands ondicht en – tegen de achtergrond van de hernieuwde Frans-Nederlandse vijandschap rond 1701 – aangevuld met eigen "tegenzangen": Nederlandse tegendichten die de Franse triomfzang van repliek dienen. De uitgave is verlucht met een gegraveerde plaat van het standbeeld van Lodewijk XIV op de Place des Victoires in Parijs, in 1686 opgericht door maarschalk de la Feuillade. Een curieus staaltje literaire propaganda en contrapropaganda uit de Frans-Nederlandse betrekkingen.

Bilingual, French and Dutch edition of Volpillière's panegyric on Louis XIV, originally published in 1673 as a tribute to the French invasion of the Republic during the Disaster Year (Rampjaar) of 1672, when Holland lay virtually at the feet of the Sun King. The bookseller and publisher François Halma reissued the bombastic original three decades later, now translated into Dutch prose and — against the backdrop of renewed Franco-Dutch hostility around 1701 — supplemented with his own "tegenzangen": Dutch counter-poems in response to the French song of triumph. The edition is illustrated with an engraved plate of the statue of Louis XIV on the Place des Victoires in Paris, erected in 1686 by Marshal de la Feuillade. A curious specimen of literary propaganda and counter-propaganda from Franco-Dutch relations.
