In Antwerpen, al dan niet onder invloed van deze kunstenaars, lijkt De N. voorzichtig zijn eerste lijnen op papier te hebben gezet. (Bink ‘Verfijnde lijnen’ p. 49-57). Deze fraaie pre-rafaelitisch     -achtige tekening heeft hij wellicht ook bewonderd. Volgens gegevens van het Slager Museum, Den Bosch, is dit naast een schilderijtje het enige werk dat overgeleverd is uit Slagers modernistische Antwerpse tijd.
